Rev. Floyd R. McPhee (minister of Parkwood Sept. 1980 - Jul. 2001)
Floyd was born in Sarnia. Ontario. His "home congregation" was First Presbyterian Church, Seaforth. Ontario. He attended Seaforth Public School and Seaforth and District High School. Floyd was a graduate of Sir George Williams University, Montreal (B.A., Arts), Presbyterian College, Montreal (M. Div.), St. Paul University, Ottawa (Master of Arts & Master of Pastoral Studies), Eastern Baptist Seminary, Philadelphia PA (D. Min.) and has a D.D. (Honoris Causa) from his alma mater, Presbyterian College, Montreal. He was ordained into the ministry on May 14, 1963.
Floyd served as minister of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Port Cartier QC (1963 - 1967), Trinity Presbyterian Church, Amherstview ON (1967-1971), Renfrew Presbyterian Church, Renfrew ON (1971-1980), Parkwood Presbyterian Church, Nepean ON (1980-2001); after retirement in 2001, he served as Stated Supply at Malagawatch. Orangedale & River Denys Presbyterian Churches, Cape Breton NS (2001-2004), Interim Minister of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church. Winchester ON, Knox Presbyterian Church, Mountain ON (2004-2006) and at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Winchester ON, St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Chesterville ON & Morewood Presbyterian Church, Morewood ON (2006-2010), St. Timothy’s Church, Ottawa (2017-2018)
and Interim Moderator of St. Andrew’s Church (Aylmer), Gatineau, QC (2013-2022). He was named Minister Emeritus of Parkwood Church in 2011.
Floyd was married to Claire Langley; they have four adult children: Jeffrey, Susan, Andrew (Sandra), Dave (Eun Woo), and six grandchildren: Alex, Matthew, Erin, Noah, Dany and Kevin.
Floyd enjoyed serving his church and his community. He served his church at the Presbytery (Kingston, Lanark-Renfrew, Ottawa, Cape Breton, Seaway-Glengarry), and Synod (Quebec & Eastern Ontario) levels as moderator (K, L-R, O, CB presbyteries, Q&EO synod), clerk (Kingston Presbytery), as well as member and chair of numerous committees. He also served on various committees of the PCC, the Advisory Committee of the Renewal Fellowship within the Presbyterian Church in Canada and on the senate of Presbyterian College. His community service involvement has been as a member of service clubs (Lions, Rotary), School Boards (Ernestown Township, Lennox Addington County), associations (Telecare, CNIB, Mentally Retarded Association, Arc Industries, CANHAVE, various ministerial associations) and on various Christian boards and committees (Pastoral Care Committee, Ottawa; Pastoral Care in Secondary Schools, Ottawa; Pastoral Care Team, Queensway Carleton Hospital, Ottawa; Billy Graham Mission Organizing Committee, Ottawa; Pastoral Care at the Winchester & District Memorial Hospital ) and various chaplaincies (Algonquin College & the Ottawa-Carleton Regional Detention Centre).
Floyd was an avid walker, outlasting many dear friends in the circuit around Carlingwood Mall such as Ross Brown, Tom Kennedy and Bill Nesbitt. He enjoyed summers at the family cottage on Aylen Lake near Algonquin Park. He and Claire were dutiful and doting grandparents. His leisure reading included theological commentaries and biographical and autobiographical books.
Floyd passed away in Ottawa on June 23, 2022 after a short illness. A memorial service was held at Parkwood church on Saturday July 2 at 10 a.m., followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall and and thereafter inurnment at Admaston Cemetery, Renfrew County, Ontario.
