  Pending retirement... During the worship service on May 3, 2026 Pastor James shared with those present (in-person
and online) that after 40 years in the ministry including almost 25 at Parkwood, he intends to retire in September. The Presbytery of Ottawa at it's meeting on June 16 approved his request, effective September 1, 2026 and named Rev. Chris Clarke, minister of Westminster church, Ottawa as Parkwood's interim moderator. Pastor James will be in the pulpit until the end of August, guiding us through Paul's letter to the Philippians. He will also be on vacation for several weeks prior to August 30. The pulpit will be "preached vacant" on
Sunday September 6. You can hear the announcement here (link takes you to the announcement @ the 36 minute
mark in the service). See also page 3 of the June Pulse.
  Website revamp... Parkwood has had a presence on the World Wide Web since April 1996.
Over it's 30 plus years the website has gone through two major redesigns, and is due for another, as well as a "passing of the torch" to a new generation of web designers and
maintainers. A team consisting of Luis Cortorreal and Chen Chen, under the direction of Jim MacDonald has been at work on a new site design since last fall.
At some point soon the plan is to run the two sites - new and legacy - in parallel and once the kinks are ironed out, it will be "out with the old, in with the new".
Click on large banner image in the top left corner of this page to preview the new site.
The web development team has introduced a new way of handling e-mail. From now on, we'll be using new custom "generic" e-mail addresses using our web address, instead of personal e-mail addresses. So any e-mail sent to the CE team leader should now be sent to "christianeducation@parkwoodchurch.ca". The e-mail addresses coincide with the team name for the most part - facilitymaintenance, worshipcoordination, etc. Some individuals have also been given generic e-mail addresses that relate to their function, like library and sessionclerk. So have a look at the staff and leaders pages, as well as the new site's
"Our Team" page and check out the new e-mail addresses. (note: some custom e-mail addresses created previously will be retained;
our pastor will continue to use his personal e-mail address).
  A Stewardship Letter dated May 8, 2026 was sent out to Parkwood folk inviting them/you/us to "share in a season of stewardship" in an era of increasing costs and financial challenges. You can read the letter here.
To help us keep track of this campaign, please mark donations for this purpose using
the term "Personal pledge". To the end of May, $3,720.00 has been donated in response to this need.
Mission Team Special Appeal 2026 #2:
The Mission Team's second special appeal for 2026, commencing June 28, is for Literacy & Evangelism International (LEI), a Canadian charity that focuses on literacy & equipping churches to teach people the local language so they are able to read the Bible themselves, if one already is available in translation.
