WHAT'S HAPPENING...
Family Activities
Families in our growing congregation share in a variety of activities and events throughout the year. Special events include sleigh rides, cross-country skiing, congregational picnics, camping weekends at Gracefield (pay them a visit - and say we sent you!), special events to celebrate important Christian festivals, choir concerts, Christmas pageants and congregational dinners.

Activities for Individuals
Parkwood offers many opportunities for people to get together. We have groups for youth, college & careers, singles & adults. We have bible studies for adults, one for men and one for women. We have activities for those who like to sing and those who like to curl. We have ladies' and men's breakfasts. We offer support groups for those who need encouragement. We hope you'll be encouraged by these opportunities for fun and fellowship too.

Pastoral Care
The elders of the congregation share with the minister in an organized program of pastoral care and visitation. To assist the elders we have a Pastoral Care Team of trained lay people.

Seminars & Courses
Short term courses, seminars, membership courses, workshops, film series on family life, marriage, lifestyle evangelism, developing one's spirituality, recognizing one's spiritual gifts, social issues - are offered throughout the year.

News
We regret to announce the passing of Ian MacLennan in Ottawa on Tuesday Sept. 6. See Ian's obituary for information regarding the visitation and service. Also, May Skinner passed away in England Friday September 2nd (May's obituary). Other recent passings include Katherine Baker-Raynes, in Ottawa on Wednesday Aug. 24 (Kay's obituary), Jean Burt, in Bracebridge on August 13 (Jean's obituary), and Kathy VanDyk on August 13 (Kathy's obituary).

Laura Paul, Parkwood's summer office assistant, has returned to school in New Brunswick. Thanks, Laura, and may God bless you in this new term.

Leah Hopp, who was our summer office assistant last year, is off to Tanzania for a nine-month internship doing health care work in Tanzania. Leah would like to keep her church family and friends up-to-date by means of a newsletter. Her first may be viewed on our site here (in pdf format).

Seeking Organist/Choir Director: At a meeting on Monday August 29, Parkwood Ssession approved a new job description for Organist/Choir Director. We are now seeking applicants to fill the position. A job description may be found on our website in PDF or MS Word format. Please submit applications to the church office (at the address above); for information please contact Stewart Reeves (sreeves@cyberus.ca), leader of the Worship Coordination Team.

Change in services: On recommendation of the Worship Coordination Team, Session have agreed that commencing Sunday September 11 for a four week trial, Parkwood will hold a 7 p.m. evening contemporary worship service instead of a 9:15 a.m. service. The traditional service will resume at the 11:00 a.m. hour the same day. All those who have registered an interest in participating in a worship team for such a service are asked to meet at the church Tuesday September 6th at 7:30 p.m., at which time it is hoped to set up teams for the four weeks of the trial. For more info contact Gord Walford (gord.walford@sympatico.ca).

Coming Events
Parkwood's next movie night, featuring "Coach Carter" starring Samuel L. Jackson, will be Saturday September 10, starting at 7:00 p.m. "An inspirational account of a controversial high school basketball coach, who received both high praise and staunch criticism when he made national news in 1999 for benching his entire undefeated basketball team for poor academic performance."

Parkwood's family camping weekend at Gracefield will be held September 16 - 18 this year. See the September Pulse for more information or contact Stewart Reeves (sreeves@cyberus.ca).

Miscellaneous
NOW AVAILABLE: Calendar of activities and Pulse newsletter for September 2005. (in pdf format - requires Adobe Acrobat Reader - free at www.adobe.com).

The Annual Report for 2004 is now available in printed form in the narthex at the church, and in electronic form in pdf format. Available are a full copy (2192 KB) including 2 front and 3 back pages with graphics and an abbreviated copy without the pages with intensive graphics (762 KB). The reports have been updated (2005/03/11) to include a report on committee restructuring as well as notes on the annual meeting.

Tapes of services are made each week and are available for $2 each. Normally at each service the scripture passage(s), special music and sermon are recorded, and the tape is made at the early service. When copies are desired for a lengthy period, arrangements can be made to "recycle" tapes. We also have an archive of tapes going back several years (although that doesn't necessarily mean we have a copy of every service). If you're interested in receiving a tape or tapes please talk to Carl Martin or contact your elder or the church office (office@parkwoodchurch.ca).
