Our Purpose
Christians have always had a purpose. Christ's "great commission"to go make disciples was among the first.
Presbyterians have long known that their purpose was to "glorify God and to enjoy Him for ever".
It has become popular in all kinds of organizations, both spiritual and secular, to have a "mission statement".
We at Parkwood began working on one in 1988, and it was accepted in early 1990. Since then (and for that matter before then, too) we have been
"working it out".
Actually, we have three statements - a very brief one, a brief one and a detailed one. This is what we're about:
- Building lives on God's love
- The purpose of Parkwood is to enable individuals and families to discover, grow in and share the love of God found in Jesus Christ
- The purpose of Parkwood is to enable individuals and families to:
Discover the love of God through
- trusting in Jesus Christ as Saviour
- being concerned and caring for each other
Grow in the love of God through
- worship
- strengthening believers
- fellowship with other Christians
- living a Christian lifestyle
- study of Scripture
- prayer
Share the love of God through
- sharing the Gospel with others
- serving people in their need
